The country band Wyld Card was born about 8 months ago. Two lifetime friends who met while walking to grade school together and then grew up and played side by side on stages all over for many years had always shared the same dream. That dream was to record a CD of original songs written from the heart. So eight months ago, Chris and Steve put the pen to paper and wrote and co-wrote 12 songs together. While Chris liking the more modern guitar oriented country music and Steve reaching farther back into the real country Era where artists like Ricky Skaggs Merle Haggard and multiple artists in that era where a song was written from the heart and not just a idea that was sent to radio to be a hit existed.
The two have joined forces to put the rocking country band Wild Card together. The goal in which they both share is to put out music that is written from the heart first off and tells a story that the every day person can relate too. With 6 out of the 12 songs finished the two are about to head back into the studio and start the next batch of music which will be sure to impress all country music lovers. The two musicians also have plans to finalize the band and hit the stages at fairs and festivals in the near future.
Whatever the outcome of the music may be both are satisfied to have finally stopped dreaming and started writing and playing. Be sure to watch your fair and festivals for a chance to come out and enjoy some real country music.
Infused with soul and smothered in sass, leMeow is quickly carving out their place in Ottawa’s growing indie scene and capturing the attention of some of Canada’s most respected music critics. Radio broadcaster Alan Cross described their first single Evening Blues as “sultry coolness."
Their newly released album York St debuted at number two on CKCU FM’s charts in its first week and has received much praise from local media. The quartet’s hook-filled melodies entertained an enthusiastic crowd at the 2016 Ottawa Bluesfest with The Revue adding that the band “immensely impressed”.
Their up-tempo, passion fueled jam That’s My Man recently earned them a trip to Tokyo to represent Canada at the Yamaha Music 2016 Asian Beat competition. The band was thrilled to be awarded second prize for their performance by the award-winning bassist and composer Nathan East. Earlier in the year, leMeow was also included in the regional finals of the 2016 CBC Music Searchlight competition. LiVE 88.5’s music director DJ Noah said, “If you like Amy Winehouse, Fitz and the Tantrums, and Adele, you’ll dig leMeow!”
Lead singer Gin Bourgeois is described as having the perfect combination of smoothness and grit to her voice which is superbly complemented by the funky bass grooves of James Rooke. The common-law couple co-wrote the music for their FACTOR funded album and recorded it at Johnny Hall Productions with producer Eric Eggleston. The duo has since added the supremely talented Brent Hultquist on keys and Jansen Richard on drums to their musical roster.
